How I Beat(ing) Anxiety

I’ve always thought that feeling of nervousness was normal.

As far as I can remember I always felt that feeling of worrying. I’m not sure where this feeling originated from, it seems that I may have a genetic predisposition to anxiety. All my life my mom always complained about how she worried all the time and always had to take some sort of a medication for anxiety in order for her to fall asleep, and even now she’ll complain about it, I’m 37 years old and I don’t want to be like her. My anxiety was so bad as a child that my left eye would twitch, and still I thought that was normal — it doesn’t anymore.

According to Psychiatry.org, Anxiety is defined as a reaction towards an anticipation to future distress. This may manifest as muscle tension and avoidance behavior.

The key word in the above definition is FUTURE, I ‘ll come back to that in a bit, I just want to highlight the key ingredient in Anxiety.

There are different types of Anxiety Disorders — Generalized Anxiety, Social Anxiety, and Separation Anxiety — which also includes Panic Disorders and Phobias such as Agoraphobia — a fear of open and/or crowded places. They all produce similar symptoms, such as restlessness, feeling on edge or easily fatigued…
