What is the meaning of life? An age-old question that still plagues our society.

At the end of this article I will reveal exactly what the meaning of life is, but the answer may not be to your liking. This is a secular article, so I have no opinion towards a god or gods and/or religion or faith. A god(s) may exist and in fact they do exist in our world religions in an attempt to answer the question — What is the meaning of life?

Sometimes this question is disguised as, “ Why are we here?” or “What is the purpose to our existence?”

There are countless books written about this, but why? Is it that people are curious beings and they just need to know?

Philosophers for millennia have made their careers on pondering this question. According to Plato, the meaning of life was to achieve knowledge. Socrates believed that the meaning of life was to attain spiritual and personal growth. The Stoics believed that the meaning of life was the freedom from suffering through self development of self-control and mental fortitude — strength in facing difficulty, adversity, danger, or temptation courageously. These are all great tenets to live by and if we do live by them we’d probably have a good life. However, living a life by personal beliefs or principles cannot be a universal answer to the Meaning of Life question.
